The Uradome Coast has a magnificent marine landscape shaped by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan and is a part of the Uradome Coast area of San’in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark.* 1. It is like a museum of topography and geology where you can observe various landforms such as sea arches, caves, and white-sand beaches.
The coast that runs from Mt. Shichiyama (駟馳山) to Cape Kugami (陸上岬) is known as a scenic spot that shows various faces depending on the time of day and is highly praised by literary master Shimazaki Toson. The distinctive landscapes of the Uradome Coast include Natane Goto, Sengan Matsushima, Kamogaiso, and Ryujin Cave. The varied landscapes are captivating to the eyes of visitors.
If you enjoy landscapes from land, there is a promenade along the coastline and you can see the crystal clear sea up close. In addition, the town runs pleasure boats so you can feel the sea breeze and see the scenery that you cannot see from land.
There are various lessons, such as snorkelling, where both adults and children can enjoy this highly transparent underwater scenery. In summer, the three beaches, which are shallow and have white sand and green pine trees, are crowded with visitors.
*1: It is a geopark extending widely from Kyoto Prefecture (Kyotango City), Hyogo Prefecture (Toyooka City, Kami Town, and Shin Onsen Town), to Tottori Prefecture (Iwami Town and Tottori City). San’in Kaigan National Park is located in the middle of the San’in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark which lies about 120 km from east to west, making the total surface area 2,458.44 km2.
